FAUX GRAINING
Faux Bois, commonly known as “graining,” is the art of making things look like wood. Traditionally it was employed to make less valuable woods look more expensive. Although, conversely, I have been hired to make mahogany look like pine, and even marble look like wood. It is quite an art, traditionalists using beer and dry pigment to come up with the most convincing depictions of the intricacies of the grain in the wood, and we use a variety of beautiful specialty brushes to achieve these affects.
