FAUX FINISHES
This section is devoted to the vast array of paint finishes that clients and designers hire decorative painters to do. The simplest wall finish is a glaze: a paint color in a transparent medium applied over a painted surface then manipulated with cheesecloth, rag, brush or another material. This knocks back the often glaring flatness of color and adds depth and atmosphere to a room. To simulate anything from linen to thatch to parchment and leather as well as just decorative surfaces that have no direct relation to a particular material, we use a variety of brushes, handmade tools, and techniques. The simulations are endless.
